The Next Scare is Here...the Climate Crisis
The same people who thought they could control a virus also think they can control the temperature of the earth.
Every day the left loses its grip on the Covid cudgel. The courts have mostly killed the vax mandates and mask mandates were recently rejected in Virginia, a Covid battleground state. The liberal New Jersey and Delaware governors, and two more, just abandoned masks for school kids. They realized continuing the fight was futile. But not the President. When asked about it during her daily press briefing, Biden mouthpiece Jen Psaki said, “The guidance is very clear, which is that we recommend masking in schools.” For kids 2 and up.
At this point it’s not about “the science”. It’s about maintaining power. The experts seized on the pandemic as an opportunity to reassert their own status and authority, and that of the liberal politicians with whom they are aligned with. It was about fighting for the collective good. Be heroic, be patriotic. Just get the vax and wear a mask. Because these folks believe they hold the moral high ground, they are dumbfounded when the great unwashed resist.
But the time is coming and they need to find something else. During the Covid crackdown in 2020 the ever opportunistic Democratic braintrust went to work to alter the electoral landscape, they hoped forever. They used executive powers in states run by Democrats to change election procedures in a way that would basically eliminate voter security. Not verifying signatures on mail-in ballots, not requiring an ID to vote and allowing unattended drop boxes played right into the Democrats hands. With the help of Facebook’s $400 mm gift, non profits in a number of swing states were able to set in motion a number of dubious voter outcomes.
Since then, over a dozen states have rolled those temporary measures back and have re-instituted tougher voting controls. The left has cried voter suppression and has since tried to federalize the elections process with their “Voter Rights” bill, but was narrowly defeated. And their electoral chances look grimmer than ever.
So what now? With Bidens abysmal polling numbers, the Democrat’s know that just going about business as usual until November will not work. They are desperate for another crisis, another opportunity at utilizing executive authority to again regain and retain power, not from legislation, but by executive fiat.
All bets are off if Biden insanely tries to interfere in the Ukraine/Russia spat. Polling shows Americans are against US intervention by over 10%. But as is often said, desperate times require desperate measures. Not unlike when Bill Clinton ordered the bombing of a Sudanese aspirin factory to deflect attention away from the Lewinsky scandal, Biden may feel compelled to inject the US into the spat. If he did that, he could enact all sorts of executive orders as part of his war powers, including ones having to do with elections. But, so far, it’s mostly sound and fury signifying nothing.
Just last week, Biden tipped his hand that climate related policy may be the way. And with it, a number of ominous plans and programs that could result in increasing executive powers. Here is a pull from his executive order, “There is little time left to avoid setting the world on a dangerous, potentially catastrophic, climate trajectory.” The Build Back Better legislation was loaded with climate related measures but was defeated when Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) cast the deciding vote against it, citing costs. But the left will not let it die. Progressive Congressman Pramila Jayapal (D-CA) says the clock is running out, “We must seize this moment for all Americans and enact these vitally important climate investments into law in the coming weeks.”
If that measure falls short there’s this. The President is being urged to enact the National Emergencies Act to ramrod through dozens of green measures to meet a number of mostly unattainable goals, primarily the one which says if we don’t lower the earths temperature by 1.5 degrees, we’re doomed. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is egging Biden on, "I think it might be a good idea for President Biden to call a climate emergency," Schumer told Rachel Maddow of MSNBC. The move, he said, would enable Biden to do "many, many things under the emergency powers."
From voiding offshore oil leases, to shutting off all pipelines, to asking the DOJ to sue oil companies, to allowing climate refugees to safely seek asylum in the U.S., the list is endless. Jailing corporate leaders of oil and gas companies is being advocated by Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
All most of us have to do to get a glimpse of the future is to relive how the left dealt with the Covid crisis. Columnist David Harsinyi believes nothing is too far fetched, “If Democrats believe that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention should be empowered to declare an eviction moratorium and unilaterally discard property rights, you can imagine what sort of things await this nation if they can declare climate change an “emergency.”

Quote of the week, from former President Donald Trump when responding to the Joe Rogan dustup.
“Joe Rogan is an interesting and popular guy, but he’s got to stop apologizing to the Fake News and Radical Left maniacs and lunatics.” Never cave to the mob.

Following a few weeks of panic on the right, the redistricting of state legislative and Congressional districts does not look nearly as ominous as it did a few weeks ago. The dodgy Democrat lawyer Marc Elias has been doing everything he can to get Democrat’s better districts. A week ago, word out of New York and North Carolina indicated that the Democrats were able to carve out a large share of winnable districts. The left hopes the friendlier boundaries will lessen the risk of getting “shellacked” this November. However, the Republican’s saw big legal victories in Alabama and in Arizona, which currently has 5 Dem’s and 4 R’s…Republican now think their chances are 6-3 in their favor. According to the Cook Political Report, they estimate that Democrats have a narrow edge of 2.5 seats of the 435 contested seats. According to my account, that will mean the Republican’s will gain 40, instead of 42.
